We’re going through the minor prophets in staff morning devotions and here are some tasters/outlines/themes from Harrison and James respectively:
Joel 1
- Strong imagery (locusts, wailing virgin etc)
- Impending judgement
- Judgment now
- Need to wail and mourn
- Relational prayer as opposed to transactional.
- Christ our hope and refuge in the great Day of the Lord.
Joel 2
Here is a God who raises a nation to judge His own people because He must remain true to His Holy Character (which cannot tolerate sin or live with it) but, at the same time, calls His people to rend their hearts and turn back to Him in repentance. Scary but deeply assuring of God’s sovereignty, Judgement, Mercy and Grace.
