James Wainaina recently travelled to the Kiwoko Bible Expositors Fellowship convened by Chris Yiki (Biblica Uganda) and Steve Smith (Grace Church, UK, former Crosslinks missionary in Uganda). This is James’ report:
Preaching Christ, Making Disciples
Working at expository gospel ministry can be lonely sometimes, especially when we do not enjoy the fellowship of other like-minded believers. Thoughts of “am I the only one doing this?” run through my mind every now and then. It is a big challenge. But when you sit in a warm fellowship, encouraging each other, then hearts are warmed and energized to keep on serving in the kingdom.
This was the experience in Kiwoko when I travelled there early June for the Fellowship of Bible Expositors. Approximately 80 kms North of Kampala is the Kiwoko Mission. The complex encompasses a a primary and secondary school, a church, a hospital, a medical training institute and a training centre. It is here, at the training centre, that we gathered from different churches and organizations in East Africa who are committed to teaching God’s word and training Bible teachers. The fellowship brought together people from different walks of life such as nurses, teachers, gospel ministers among others.
There was a warm reception in the land of the East African Revival Movement. Ugandans are generally lively and hospitable people. But above all it was wonderful to see how the gospel has penetrated the innermost parts of Uganda and to see the work of Langham Partnership that has been ongoing there.
At the end of the 3 days fellowship, the hearts of the participants were warmed up and the need to preach and teach God’s word faithfully was very evident.
The content at the fellowship was as follows:
- Building with the right foundations: The gospel
- 7 steps to dig deeper into a passage
- Preaching from Proverbs
- Preaching from Exodus
God-willing I’ll reflect on each of these in subsequent posts.
What do you think?
