Greg on 1 Samuel 13-15: The End of a Dynasty; The Waste of a Prince; The Rejection of a King. Applications: The choice we all face; The sin we all commit; The king we all need. Loved it.
Doug on ‘Twisted Tales’ – narrative nasties. What on earth is going on with the she-bears in 2 Kings 2:23-25? Again we saw that the Bible is what we need to understand the Bible (e.g. Lev. 26:22 in this case).
A good time applying 1 Kings 17. Delegate in conversation: “What I have learnt this week is that these narratives are not about me. I just have to read the stories and think, ‘What does it say about God’s plans and about Jesus?”
Luke on the tension between the clear requirements for the leader to be a man of good reputation (1 Tim. 3:2,7) while not being in gospel ministry for the reputation – our audience and judge is God (1 Cor. 4:2-4). (Showed us an amazing clip illustrating reputation.)
Please pray for the last day tomorrow:
- That we’d all be encouraged to go out and put these lessons on preaching into practice.
- For the afternoon looking at the important issue of mentoring in our churches.
